Professional Dance & Musical Theatre Courses
97% of Graduates leading successful careers in the industry
This week at college has been both rewarding and physically challenging. In jazz after warm up we have been targeting strength and stamina in order to boost our power and performance.
We have been intensively training with our Renaissance fitness coach David Hudson and his team, building on our fitness and strength. This includes all forms of crossfit, tabata and core stability. The team will be assessing our individual performance and tracking our progress at college as we train with the team on Monday and Wednesdays.
We have also begun work on our mid year assessment pieces in both in Musical Theatre and also Ballet.
On Tuesday, for student social the whole of the college went to Outlaws in the city centre and we had a quiz night. 2nd and 3rd place was settled by a plank off which after a full day of training was challenging but entertaining.
I thoroughly enjoyed evening jazz this week as we were connecting with our emotions and interpreting this through our dance. This was challenging as we had to improvise and each step we made had to have a meaning.
I am look forward to Mr Fredericks coming in next week to carry on our script work which really gets you thinking as well as working on vocal harmonies with Mr Rigg. As a 3rd year I am excited about the upcoming Graduate show and working at the theatre. Our show this year will be held at the Stanley and Audrey Burton Theatre Leeds city centre and as usual promises to be a diverse show of musical theatre and dance. Tickets are now on sale from the Northern Ballet Website, follow the link below to book your tickets early as shows are likely to be sold out.
Another amazing week down at RA and a few more steps on the road to graduation!
We have worked on control & adage transfering these skills into pirouette combinations. In technical jazz we have been working through quad & glute strengthening, developpe and fondu. I know this is increasing my strength, technique, physique and improving every genre of my dance.
At the beginning of the week the Year 2 and 3 and some graduates had the opportunity to audition for Sammy Murray, a brilliant choreographer who is currently working on Victoria for ITV. It was a great experience to audition on pointe and get that little bit closer to ‘the real world’. “Congratulations to the successful girls- you looked beautiful!!!”
We have been working towards our mid year vocal assessments, continuing on acting through song in our new duets and trios. Working through script from ‘Spring Awakening’ with the brilliant Director Luke Fredericks, trying to make choices that are not the obvious when delivering.
Also work on current Broadway Musical “Something Rotten!” accessing our inner Elizabethans!’ This hilarious piece was re-created by our own directors. We have really tried to push our character work to the extremes, working on harmonies and the meaning of the lyrics was challenging and fun.
To end the week we began our new Fosse project, adding to our dance repertoire for this we had to be specific to the style, a very high energy number to perform .
Loved this work from such iconic choreographers! This helps enrich our repertoire of dance and knowledge of shows that will never go out of fashion!

It has been a challenging and inspiring week as the students in the lead up to the Easter break, as the Renaissance barre raises even higher in our pursuit of quality of training, over quantity of students.
Big congratulations to all involved for some really promising work and impressive performances. Can’t wait to continue the progress next week in all the technical core subject and featuring ‘West Side Story’ directors Masterclass.
